Are there really any advantages to getting bee-stung every day, not being able to mow for them and big antlered deers coming up in your yard and freaking you out? Well, mother says “yes, it’s worth it. Imagine when I was growing up we seldom had meat to eat, what if we’d had some berry bushes in our yard to eat from? We’d thought we were rich”. Of course, her growing up the last of nine kids and being raised by a single parent having to wash the local’s clothes on a washboard to earn a living, I suppose she was glad to just get to eat. Time was lean in the 1930’s she said.

Old Fashioned Wild Plum Trees

Fruit trees are an excellent addition to any lawn or garden. These trees will not only provide a burst of color outdoors, but fruiting trees will also provide you and your family with plenty of sweet, natural treats to enjoy throughout the growing season.

There are many varieties of fruit trees available, depending on the climate that you live in. Most seasonal fruit trees, such as apples and pears will grow just about anywhere. More tropical fruit varieties, such as oranges, peaches, and apricots do really well in warmer climates.

Wild Huckleberry Plants

No matter what type of fruiting trees you are working on within your yard, it is important to know when the fruits will be ripe and how to properly pick them for the best flavor. Once you pick the fruit, explore canning, freezing, and recipe options. These will allow you to enjoy the fruit from your trees all year long. After you have stocked your freezer, you may still have some fruit leftover. What can you do with it? Many people sell it as a way to generate a little extra income. Some give it away to a friend, neighbors, and soup kitchens to provide fresh fruit for those who may not get it every day.

Wild Blackberry Plants

No matter what you choose to do with your fruit, fruiting trees can provide an abundance of good food and joy for your garden.

Favorite Old Fashioned Choices & Favorites Of Mine are not the tart sour varieties (Hybrids and man-made varieties) but the wild type Mother Nature Grows; I've found some below and Tn Nursery seems to be the one that dominates for high-quality plants. Sure the fruits are smaller but the super-sweet taste makes up for it. Tn Nursery reviews are good too so I think they must be reputable.
